Wife of a Wounded Warrior: “Army wives are like teabags. You never know how strong she is until she lands in hot water.”

Want to see what strength looks like?

Strength rocks a purple dress to her husband’s Purple Heart ceremony and smiles through tears.  Strength becomes his advocate, his appointment scheduler, his researcher for alternative medical treatments to restore their lives, his bedrock when he brings the war home.

Major Darren Baldwin is a Special Forces officer. He “brought the war home” in 2006 after walking away from two IED blasts in Iraq and spent the following two years struggling to find out why his body continued to fail him.  After a trek around the country to myriad hospitals, Major Baldwin received the correct diagnosis: mild TBI (traumatic brain injury) from the IED blasts and Central Nervous System Lyme Disease.

He received his Purple Heart this summer, and his hometown in Ohio hosted a ceremony on 9/11.  Major Baldwin’s wife, Bianca, chose the date because “9/11 is the reason my husband went to war.”

If you’re able, please consider a donation to the Green Beret Foundation  on behalf of Major Baldwin to help him receive the treatment he needs–treatment so experimental that the Army won’t cover the expense.  In the comment section of the donation page, please indicate the donation is for the “Major Baldwin Fund.”

And pray.  Pray for the Baldwins and the thousands of wounded warriors and their families.
