Stupak to retire!

From Politico via Drudge:

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who had a central role in the health reform fight as the leader of anti-abortion Democrats, plans to announce Friday that he will not run for reelection, a Democratic official said. Without Stupak on the ballot, the seat becomes an immediate pickup opportunity for Republicans.

President Barack Obama called Stupak on Wednesday and asked him not to retire. Stupak, 58, also resisted entreaties from Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), the dean of the Wolverine State delegation.

Too bad he couldn’t resist their entreaties by voting for Obamacare.

Stupak plans to continue to live in the district, the official said. He plans to say that as he opens a new chapter, he will continue to serve the people of the First District, just not as their congressman.

Emphasis my own.  Considering he’s leaving precisely because he did not serve the people or listen to his constituents who are overwhelmingly Catholic, blue-collar and wanted nothing to do with Obamacare, then it takes some gall to pretend to serve anyone but himself or his political ambitions.

  1. Yippee…..

    God bless.

  2. Too bad. I wanted the pleasure of actually watching him lose. This is the equivalent of Judas throwing the thirty pieces of silver away after the betrayal. It looks like the November elections are not coming fast enough. They are running like rats…lol

    • Manny, you’re back! Re the rats exiting, I know, it would be more fun to watch them all lose painfully, but watching that electoral map and seat count in November will be more than enough to make up for it. ; )

      • Thanks for remembering me. You know I did comment once before here and I can’t remember where that was and I never did follow up to see if someone replied back. From now on i will check the email heads up box. 🙂
